the big things

There are several avenues I have contemplated on taking this post, and I'm still not exactly sure where it'll end up. But there are some things I'm feeling this evening that began at about 4 this afternoon.

Today I left a building for the last time, a building that I have entered Monday thru Friday for the last 21 months. And I'm not sure it will really sink in until I enter that new building on Monday. And to me right now this seems like a huge deal, super important and one of the bigger life decisions I've ever made.

It's interesting to me how something can seem like such a huge deal, but put into perspective it really isn't. For instance people change jobs all the time and always will. And to many people it's not a big deal, and in several months it won't seem that way to me anymore either. But right now in the moment there are so many feelings...feelings of excitement to explore what is in store for me, sadness of not seeing friends everday at work anymore, nervousness about what I don't know that's ahead.

Let's be clear though, mostly I'm excited to see God moving in my life, I so often don't pay attention when He does, but when He smacks me in the face it's hard to ignore. I was finally to a place of contentment, realizing this is the town I'm supposed to be in and at the job I'm supposed to be at. And then not even 2 months later God drops an opportunity into my lap. And I couldn't be happier for this new challenge. And that's where my life is right now.

How have I not known?

That's right folks, our penny has changed. And I just found out about this today, no thanks to my friend Megan who has known for some time about this and failed to tell me. Now you should notice that on this penny its mint date is 2010. And if my calculations are correct, which they are according to a calendar, it is 2011. That's a year later. And so I feel I've been in the dark for a year. Upon asking everyone I have seen since finding out about this new penny of which I got at lunch, I would say about 60% don't know about the new penny design either. So I don't feel quite so bad now. But I also found out there are apparently 4 different designs for the penny. I look forward to seeing them.

And now for a few facts I read while searching for a picture to share. The design is the Union Shield representative of Lincoln keeping the Union together. The coin was first seen in circulation in February 2010. And that's all the facts I got for ya.

Noni Fun Fact: I used to want $50 worth of quarters when I was little.

I wonder...

As I was driving home from work today, I saw something I regularly see when the sun is shining and it's hot out. Two motorcycles passed each other, and as they did they each stuck their left arm out straight. I've come to assume this is some sort of cycler greeting...but how did it start? Who thought, 'Hey, it would be cool if as we passed each other on our motorcycles we stuck our arm out.' And then, how did they all find out and know to do it. And that right there, sticking my arm out as I ride past a fellow cycler, is the first of many reasons that I would love to someday have a motorcycle of my own.

But this isn't the only thing we as a culture do that I wonder how got started and not only that but how it spread and continued. These aren't written rules, people just know. Like, could I start some crazy thing like wearing blue on a certain day and get everyone else in the country to do it too?

Noni Fun Fact: I think a day where everyone wore blue would be awesome, we'd all look like Smurfs. Funny.

whirlwind

This week has been a whirlwind, filled with the unexpected and God showing up and making His presence known. It has been truly wonderful. There were even several days that I couldn't remember what day it was. So here are the highlights...
-new table and bench type chairs
-supper with granparents/mom
-church
-movie with friend
-starting the roommate process
-exciting phone call
-trip to Clay for an oil change from people who care and eye check, I can see!
-job interview/offer/acceptance
-hangout with friend
-early bed time
-sushi celebration with the boys
-learning the difference between sushi and shashimi
-hail at 3 a.m. and my weather radio going off
-new khakis and a wonderful time with sis-in-law
-an evening spent hearing/talking about God moving through and in lives
-batthroom door closing on it's own
And tomorrow I will celebrate the amazing woman God has put in my life that I am fortunate enough to call Mom.
There are so many adjectives I could use to describe the week, but mostly I can see God moving in my life and am so thankful for it. God is good.
